Why Stelvin?

A choice that speaks of quality, identity, and the future

For more than ten years, Borgo Paglianetto has chosen to use Stelvin closures on selected labels of Verdicchio di Matelica and Marche Rosso IGT.

A decision that often raises curiosity and questions:

  • Why a screw cap?

  • What difference does it make to the wine?

  • What advantages does it offer over time?

  • Is it really a suitable choice for premium-quality wines?

Over the years, we have gained experience, collected data, conducted comparative tastings, and closely observed the evolution of our wines. Today, we would like to share this journey with those who love wine as much as we do.

Innovation means looking ahead

More than twelve years ago, we began experimenting with Stelvin closures on our wines, convinced that quality is built not only through vineyard and cellar work, but also through technical choices capable of preserving freshness, integrity, and a true expression of terroir over time.

Today, that decision continues to represent a path of research, sustainability, and vision for us.

The perspective of those who speak about wine every day

When a bottle sealed with a Stelvin closure arrives at the table, the question is often the same: “What do you think about it?”

To explore the topic further, we involved industry professionals, gathering the perspectives of those who guide guests through the discovery of wine every day.

A conversation about experience, cultural evolution, and above all, what truly matters: what we find in the glass.

Debunking common misconceptions

Is a screw cap really only suitable for simple wines?

It is one of the most widespread misconceptions in the wine world. Yet, when looking at the leading wine-producing countries and the most advanced markets, a different reality emerges.

The choice of closure does not depend on the economic value of a bottle, but on the producer’s objectives: preserving freshness, enhancing the aromatic profile, ensuring consistent evolution over time, and offering maximum reliability.

In the end, as always, it is the wine that speaks in the glass.

Innovation means having the courage to look ahead

For this reason, more than twelve years ago, we began experimenting with Stelvin closures on our wines, convinced that quality is also built through technical choices capable of preserving freshness, integrity, and the authentic expression of the territory over time.

Today, that decision continues to represent a journey of research, sustainability, and vision. Through the #WhyStelvin series, we share the reasons that led us to believe in this solution and why we consider it a choice for the future.

The test of time

Sometimes the best answer to a question is not an explanation.

It is a tasting.

One of our earliest Stelvin-sealed vintages meets a new vintage of the same wine. Two glasses, ten years apart, and one simple question: what has changed?

Our experience shows that freshness, minerality, and character can accompany a wine throughout its evolution, preserving its identity over time.

A journey that continues

Did you think Stelvin was only a story about white wines?

It is time to change perspective.

We have talked about Verdicchio. We have talked about Stelvin. We have talked about the future. But the story does not end here.

For a young red wine, freshness is everything. That is why Terravignata Marche Rosso IGT has also embraced the Stelvin closure.

Our blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Lacrima finds its most authentic expression in freshness, vibrant fruit character, and natural drinkability, supported by delicate tannins.

The Stelvin closure limits oxygen ingress, helping preserve primary aromas and maintain the precision of the wine’s aromatic profile over time.

Less premature evolution. More freshness. More identity, from the first sip to the last.

#WhyStelvin is the story of a technical choice driven by the desire to preserve the wine, respect the territory, and guarantee the best possible experience for those who enjoy it.

Because innovation and identity can coexist in the same bottle.
